film is my hobby, not my livelihood

2005 september 21

photo: me and Asst. Producer Mark B. on site during Day 3 of the shooting of "the body of anna williams,' dir. bub kuns. my role? the illustrious Production Assistant. well, at least i had cool sunglasses and a britney spears microphone headset! ...i do love working on films, even as a PA. too bad the industry centers itself in L.A. (and New York). maybe i should move to the big city and make a career out of this hobby of mine.... then again, who knows what i should do with my life. today, i'm angry that i have close to zero job satisfaction and am thoroughly confused as to how to remedy this problem.

off-beat and fullcircle

today was a strange day. for starters, i'm trying to readjust to my 'normal' life after being gone in Michigan's 'Up North' (Petosky) on a film shoot for the first half of the week ('the body of anna williams,' dir. bub kuns...you've probably never heard of it...). things got stranger when i saw the assistant director, who lives in california, at kinkos here in Grand Rapids. she was shipping the box of walkie-talkies that i'd been in charge of back to california. i never thought i'd see her or that battered box again in my life. strange. i was at kinkos getting my passport photos taken. did you know you aren't allowed to show teeth in a passport photo? stranger still. and then my roommate and i were drinking hot chocolate on the pearl street bridge and a bum walked up to my roommate and told described her as stationary, but 'that girl over there' (pointing a grimy finger toward me on the other side of the bridge) has a lot of energy surrounding her. okay. strange enough even as a stand-alone incident. but it gets worse. my roommate apparently ran into this same bum near the blockbuster by our house just a few hours after he made conversation with her on the bridge. he stopped her to talk again, leading off with, 'hey...didn't i just talk to you on the bridge?!?!' highly unusual, highly strange. off-beat and full-circle.

happy anniversary, t & m.

no internet

a quick update: my internet isn't working at home and i don't anticipate that it will be anytime soon. i think i've mentioned that my computer is from the Stone Age and it's finally on its last leg. this means that my posting will likely be sparse until i get my new mac notebook up and running (after i order it, that is). ...so...please be patient and keep checking back...

i don't think i've ever had a more hectic fall. my schedule is out-of-control as i'm trying to fit in an internship, work at the restaurant, teaching piano lessons, Thursday night films, possible classes to be involved in, and house church (which i'm now officially 'in charge of,' whatever that means!) i'd like to breathe sometime soon. pray that i can breathe.
